Leadership Giving

LEADERSHIP GIVING

In 2009, in honor of CRI’s two decades of groundbreaking HIV/AIDS research, we created two leadership giving opportunities to help us continue leading the way in AIDS and now hepatitis C (HCV) research. In 2014, to commemorate CRI’s 25th anniversary of changing lives through research, we created a new fund named after CRI Founding Research Director Dr. Cal Cohen.

The 1500 Fund recognizes those who contribute $1,500 or more annually, the Dr. Cal Cohen Fund recognizes those who contribute $2,500 or more annually, and the Research Circle honors those who donate $5,000 or more annually to sustain CRI’s critical research.

To join the 1500 Fund, the Dr. Cal Cohen Fund, or the Research Circle, you can print our donation form and mail or fax it to us, donate online by clicking here, or contact the Development Office at 617.502.1710.

When CRI was established in the late 1980’s, AZT was the only antiretroviral drug available to people living with HIV/AIDS. Today there are over 30 drugs, and CRI’s research and involvement in over 300 clinical trials has contributed to the approval of nearly all of them.

In 2013, CRI also began conducting HCV clinical research trials to develop safer, more effective, and less toxic treatment options. Already the results are outstanding. The HCV research CRI was selected to participate in has shown that most people can be cured in just 8 weeks with a single pill, taken once a day.

“Despite all our successes, there is no cure for AIDS, no vaccine – nor is there likely to be one in our lifetime. Yet because of our successes, we have been able to give patients more years, more options, and more hope. We are working on ways to gain the ability to quickly identify the right regimen for specific patients and to make it easier for them to adhere to it. The reality is that, as far as we’ve come, there’s still further to go. And we plan to stay on this journey until our work is no longer necessary.”
—Dr. Cal Cohen, CRI Founding Research Director
