The Comprehensive Health Insurance Initiative (CHII) is an HDAP program that can assist with paying the cost of health insurance premiums for eligible HDAP clients. The CHII program helps people who do not have health insurance, or who already have insurance but can no longer afford to pay for it.

CHII can help pay for the following:

  • Private health insurance premiums

  • Insurance premiums through the Massachusetts Health Connector

  • MassHealth premiums

  • Medicare Part D premiums

  • COBRA premiums

  • Employee premium deductions

If you are applying to CHII to cover the cost of your premium, please include a copy of your most recent health insurance premium (bill) with your HDAP/CHII application, or fax it directly to us at 617.502.1703. If you are applying for assistance for your employee premium deductions (current employer-based insurance), please contact HDAP staff (617.502.1700) for guidance.

Premium Payment Management

CRI will be utilizing an insurance benefits manager, Pool Administration, Inc. (PAI), for all premium payments to insurers on behalf of enrollees effective May 1, 2018.

What will change for HDAP/CHII clients?

HDAP/CHII clients will not notice any changes to their HDAP/CHII enrollment. They may rarely receive calls from PAI with questions about their health insurance premiums. Additionally, premium check payments and notification letters may include the PAI logo in addition to the CRI logo.

Who should I call if I have questions?

CRI/HDAP/CHII staff will still be the first point of contact for any questions or concerns regarding premium payments. We can be reached at 1.800.228.2714; press option 1 for the HDAP/CHII department and then choose option 3 for CHII.
